Wow! Can this really be my last newsletter for the school year? I don’t know about you but this year flew! What a year filled with so many memories and growth in all areas. This has been a productive and exciting year in your child’s education. From the first day the children walked into second grade until now they have made enormous strides in everything!! Each year I am so fortunate to have the opportunity to work with an ambitious group of students. Your child’s eagerness and willingness to learn are a reflection of the importance you place on education. I am always impressed with how excited they are to learn and how much I learn from them as well. I have really enjoyed working with your child and being a part of their second grade year.
I am sending home a summer reading list.Please continue to encourage your child to read a variety of books:picture books, chapter books, magazines, comics, etc. They are all ready for the challenge of third grade but many skills are lost over the summer so I recommend reinforcing their skills over the next few months. I talked with the children about the importance of keeping up with their second grade skills, even cursive. As they are writing letters, please encourage cursive. They are very excited about their new way to write.
I would suggest purchasing skill books that are available at United Art and Education.The Bridge series and the Summer Quest offer books on specific skills at each grade level. This will help keeptheir reading, writing and math skills alive.The children did a wonderful job this year with reading each night and writing sentences in their Reading Log each week.I highly recommend keeping a Reading Log over the summer.What a great opportunity to keep reading and writing skills sharp.
Thank you for a wonderful year and your much appreciated support! It’s always hard to say good-bye but I do look forward to teaching any other future siblings in the years to come.
